The Musée d’art et d’histoire, housed in the mansion opposite the theater, built in the 17th century, is a treasure trove of priceless artifacts. You’ll discover exceptional archaeological remains from the theater. The impressive Roman cadastre dating from the 1st century, a precious archaeological document unique in the world, bears witness to the organization of the city as a Roman province. The extraordinary history of Orange will continue as you journey through the city’s medieval period, meeting Guillaume au Cornet, Count of Toulouse and Lieutenant of Charlemagne, before crossing the five centuries of the famous Principality of Orange, governed by Protestant Princes who confronted Louis XIV at the end of the 17th century. You’ll also enter the artistic world of Frank Brangwyn and Albert De Belleroche, 19th-century painters and contemporaries of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Auguste Renoir.
