New visitor areas have been created! Don’t delay in discovering the “From Roman genius to modern genius” educational trail, and learn how Roman genius developed in a remarkable way, leaving its mark on our modern cultures and civilizations.
Set up in 4 of the ancient theater’s alcoves, the trail is accessible to young and old alike, every day during the monument’s opening hours.
1. The theater
The first alcove traces the evolution of Roman theater, from its architecture and scenography to its genres and audiences. You’ll discover how the Romans perfected the Greek heritage, with special effects and costumes that were already highly elaborate. Explanatory panels, models and sound effects plunge you into the heart of the ancient spectacle.
2. Education
This alcove highlights the fundamental role of writing, schools and laws in Roman civilization. Through the eyes of a young pupil, you’ll discover the learning tools, writing materials and educational system of the time. Latin script and the basics of Roman law are also covered interactively.
3. Hydraulics
Roman water ingenuity is at the heart of this third alcove. Thanks to models and animations, you’ll understand how aqueducts, thermal baths and hydraulic systems shaped cities and daily life. A sensory immersion experience lets you feel the importance of water in Roman culture.
4. Entertainment
The last alcove focuses on Roman leisure activities and gastronomy. In a setting inspired by the thermopolium, the forerunner of the fast-food restaurant, you’ll discover the eating habits, games and moments of relaxation of the era. Dice games, hopscotch, multimedia buffet: a lively immersion in the Roman art of living.
